Draper Couple Keep Sixtieth Wedding Day
MR. AND MRS. WEBB
DRAPER, Jan. 28.--Mr. and Mrs. Francis A. Webb celebrated their sixtieth anniversary Friday, January 27, at their home in Draper. Mr. Webb was born in Cottonwood, Salt Lake county, March 20, 1853, His father died on the plains leaving the widow with four small children to drive the rest of the way. He married Isabella Callister, a daughter of Thomas and Helen Mar Callister, January 27, 1873. She was born October 5, 1856, at Salt Lake City.
A great part of their lives has been spent on the frontier, having pioneered in three states. They spent two years, 1875 to 1877, helping in the construction of the Saint George temple where Mrs. Webb cooked for part of the workmen. In 1877 he was ordained a high priest and called to the high council of the Millard stake. In 1881 they went to live in the United Order at Orderville, Kane county. Utah. He, being a carpenter by trade, was placed in charge of all construction work and in this capacity constructed a woolen factory.
In April, 1886, they started for Mexico. After traveling three months they arrived at Woodruf Arnzona, where Erastus Snow advised them to stay on account of disturbances in Mexico. Here for four years he helped in the determined effort made by that colony to conquer the Little Colorado river which seven times through floods took away the dam. When the government exiled Geronimo and his Apache warriors Mr. Webb, assisted in hauling the Indians and their belongings to the railroad.
In 1895 they returned to Utah, living successively at Fillmore and Salt Lake City until 1905, when they moved to Burley, Idaho. Mrs. Webb was the first woman settler of that place. Here their home was used as the meeting place of the Saints until a chapel could be built. They helped settle View in 1910.
Since 1918 their time has been spent in Salt Lake City doing temple work, and in San Francisco and Draper.
They have nine children, all of which are living. They are: Frank A. Webb, of Twin Falls; Mrs. Nettie Freeman of Mesa, Arizona; Wilford T. and Porter C. of San Francisco; J. Irvin of Vellejo, California; Mrs. Amelia Carter and Helen M. Vaudrey of Draper; Grant W. and Wallace of Salt Lake City. Their living posterity numbers 40 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Mr. Webb has held numerous positions of trust in the communities where he has resided.
