He was the son of Joseph Adair & Sarah Lafferty) married (1) Hannah U.. He married (2) Rebecca Ross. She is seen as Rebecca Adair which is an error.

James was married to “Hannah Rebecca Ross Netherton” in about 1764. He and Hannah had 8 children. they were mentioned in his will in 1818.

James died in August of 1818 and he was buried at Duncan's Creek Church. His personal estate was divided per record written in the deed records in October of 1818. His heirs including his widow and 8 children agreed to division of the estate per that record. There is mention of a will made by James on Ancestry.com dated 1807. There is also a lawsuit in regards to the real estate of James filed after his death.

- Died ? The Robert Adair who died 1865 in Mississippi (mentioned on the WikiTree site referenced with this entry) was in fact Robert Washington Adair born 1796 SC-d 1865 Miss. (see on FindAGrave). Robert J. Adair 1788-bef. 1865 lived his entire life in Laurens Co., SC. According to his son's autobiography (see below), "my father . . . Robert J. Adair . . . had died when I returned home" (from the Civil War).

The son of Robert J. Adair and Sally Jacks was Robert Presse Adair of Musgrove, Clinton, SC b. Dec. 19, 1841-d. Sept. 22, 1927 (Clinton Co., SC death certificate). He served in Company A, SC Volunteers13th Regiment, McGowan's Brigade (United States Civil War Soldiers Index). Robert Presse Adair has a short autobiography in American Adairs--Line B, Chapter XXVIII, p. 170 (in Adair History and Genealogy by J.B. Adair, 1942, Newberry County SC Public Library SC R929.2 ADA; this source is considered controversial for lack of thorough sourcing, but the Robert Presse Adair section was written by R.P. Adair prior to his death in 1927. Robert Presse Adair is buried in Clinton Cemetery, SC (see on FindAGrave; his two-page "autobiography" is posted there).
