Janet Semple was born on 29 May 1863 in Stonehouse, Lanark, Scotland, a daughter of William Peter Semple (1826-bef.1909) and Janet (Barr) Semple (?-1909).

She is the sister of John Semple (1846-1922); Thomas Semple (1848-1858); William Semple (1849-?); Henry Barr Semple (1849-1918); Peter Semple (1852-1908); James Semple (1854-1911); Robert Semple (1855-1948); Isabella (Semple) Ralston (1857-1936); Thomas Semple (1859-1889); Margaret (Semple) Melvin (1861-1890); Jane (Semple) Marchbank (1865-1933); Agnes (Semple) Melvin (1867-1925) and Elizabeth (Semple) Hepburn (1869-1911).

In 1881, Janet Semple, age 18, was living in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Janet Semple married Daniel Marchbank (1861-1939). She is the mother of Jessie Barr (Marchbank) Cowieson (1885-1972); George Marchbank (1888-1906); William Marchbank (1892-1894) and Daniel Marchbank (1894-1981).

On 18 April 1932, Janet (Semple) Marchbank, age 68, died. Place of death and location of burial is unknown.
