About Johan "Twin" Janzen

Johan is found in the 1881 census in Canada listed as a famer and in the 1891 census listed as a teacher. From reading several books, I have found that some men were teachers because they weren't good farmers and some were teachers because they were more educated than others.

I have no idea if Johan was really a teacher or if the census was marked incorrectly.

There are family stories that John, Frank, Jacob and William were orphaned at a young age and were raised by an uncle, George Brown.

Books or documents I have found show that:

After Johnan's first wife, Sarah, died he married Margaretha Teichroeb.

Johan's daughter, Sarah, was raised by his sister, Elizabeth Fehr.

Johan's sons are listed as living with him in the 1901 census in Canada.

John bought property in Polk County, OR May 19, 1905.

John died in Polk County, OR January 21, 1906. Grave marker supplied by Elizabeth Clure and Ginny Agnew and is located at the Dallas (OR) Cemetery in the pioneer section. After Elizabeth brought the stone from Lewiston, ID, we noticed the year was incorrect. Per his death certificate, he died in 1906.

He arrived in Quebec 13 Jul 1875 on the S.S. Peruvian No. 30. They settled in Osterwick, Manitoba, Canada.
