1743 July 3: Sarah McCarty is born. Her father is Darby McCarty (of Shenandoah County). The Fugits and the McCarty families were closely associated, and Sarah's brother, James married Sarah Fugate, John's sister.

1757 June 20, King George County, VA Court Orders, Deed Book 4, p. 283: "The Court proceeded to prick down the several persons hereafter named as Vagrants, to wit: ...10 names..., John Fugate Junr ... 18 names...Ordered that the sheriff ... apprehend the before mentioned persons pricked down as aforesaid ... cause them to appear Monday 27 June at 9 o'clock."

1762 Oct 21, Warrant: "To Mr Robert Rutherford, Whereas Jno Fewgat Jun of Frederick County hath informed that there are about 300 acres of waste land joining his lordship's Manor on the Drains of Gooney's run at the foot of the Blew Ridge in said county. And desiring a Warrant to Survey the same in order to obtain a Deed being ready to pay the Composition & Office fees. These are therefore to impower (sic) you to Survey the said waste land for the said Fewgatt paying due regard to your Instructions a platt (sic) of which survey with this warrant you are to return to this office on or before the 21st day of April next. He is shown on the AIS (Accelerated Indexing Systems) as being on the Dunmore County, Virginia rent rolls for the years 1774, 1775, 1776. 1785 or before: Daughter, Hannah Fugit is born in VA. Hannah's mother Sarah was 42 in 1785, so Hannah was probably born by then. The only information we have on her is that her daughter is listed as an heir of her father's when his property was sold in 1833 so Hannah was dead at that time.

In the book “Russell County, VA Personal Property and Land Tax Lists 1787 through 1800, 1802 & 1810” complied in 1973 by Anne Roberts Albert and Ethel Evans Albert, the 1802 list had a "Fugate, Sarah" but no John Sr. This made many people think that John Sr. was dead, but he was still alive. He was just skipped in the book. This is a different Sarah, not John's wife.

Abstract of the disposition of John Fugitt, Castle’s Wood, Russell Co., VA, home of John Smith, ESQ: "(John said) that he moved to this country in the year seven hundred & seventy-one. ...it was said by the old settlers in this place that if Francis Cooper had not sold his place to John Morgan he might now have had it to live on himself. This deponent also sayeth that some time in the year (1772) in or about September to the best of his remembrance Francis Fugate applied to him to purchase the land of William Karr that lay on Moccasin Creek that is now in dispute between the aforesaid parties & accordingly he purchased the land for fifty shillings from William Karr for Francis Fugate. 1825 to 1831, Virginia State Archives, LAND Tax film, reel #289 to end of reel: Fugitt, John's Estate; Russell Co.; 100 ac.; Castles Woods; 17 miles from courthouse, bearing west.

21 Nov 1833: John's heirs sold the land at Castle Run. The deeds have the names of the children as parties to the sale: “Grantors: John Fugit of Decatur County, Indiana; Jonathan Fugit of Perry County, Kentucky, Jesse Fugit of Jefferson County, Indiana, Benjamin Fugit and Lydia Fugit of Lawrence Co., Kentucky, Moses Fugit of Bedford County. Tennessee, William Bolin, husband of Sarah Fugit, of Cape Girard County, Missouri; Benjamin George, husband of Martha Fugit, of Franklin County, Indiana. William Holbrook, intermarried with Delilah Fugit, heir of Hannah Fugit of Lawrence Co, Kentucky, being hairs of John Fugit of Russell County, deceased.” (Russell County Deed Books 9, p. 380 and 10, p 52) Note: Since (John) did not leave a will, his land would have been inherited equally by all his children.
