About John Lane "the shoemaker of Norton"

Not the same as John Lane, of Hingham

Note: This is not the profile for John Lane, son of Andrew Lane, who was born in Hingham on January 20, 1647 and married Sarah Beal Lane, nor the profile for the John Lane who was born in Hingham in 1673.

John married Mehitable Hobart on June 4, 1674 and married Sarah Briggs c. 1693.

He was known in Hingham as John Lane the shoemaker, and was constable there in 1689. He removed to Norton, Massachusetts, about 1694, and settled near the boundary between Norton and Attleborough. He was taxed in Attleborough, November 12, 1696, £1 for paying the town's debt of £5 15s. 1d., and was chosen grand juryman March 22, 1696-97. He was rated in Norton, 1710, for building the first meeting house, and was on the committee, June 12, 1711, to secure incorporation of the precinct of Norton.
