About John Leonard, younger

JOHN LEONARD (OTHERWISE JOHN LENNARD) younger

John Leonard is the eldest son of John Leonard, and his wife, Helen Gibbon. He was born on the Orkney island of Rousay on 12 August, probably at Upper Kirkgate in the Wasbister district there, and his baptism was registered at Rousay on 18 September 1831 [Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950, index, FamilySearch] https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X18N-VTL His baptismal record reads as follows:"John, son to John Lennard & Nelly Gibbon, Kirkgate, Wesbyster, was born 12th Augt & baptized 18th Septr before witnesses" [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Baptisms Registered at Rousay, 1819-54, reference OPR.24/2 folio 57]

Upper Kirkgate, Wasbister, Rousay, 1841

John Leonard was at home with his mother when the census was enumerated on the night of 7 June 1841.They were living at Upper Kirkgate in the Wasbister district of the Orkney island of Rousay. His paternal grandfather and grandmother were living in the neighbouring household. His age was recorded as 10 years. [Rousay Roots] http://www.rousayroots.com/rousay1841b.html

Death

The date upon which John Leonard died is not known. He was not at home when the census was enumerated on 30 March 1851, and it is possible, therefore, that he died before this date. His mother is described in the census return as the wife of a: "Hudson's Bay Labourer" [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Scottish Census Returns for 1851, registration district number 24 (Rousay and Egilsay), enumeration book number 2, page number 3].John Leonard, elder, had a second son named John, by his third wife, Marguerite Sllortssa, who appears to have been born in 1855, or 1856, and this suggests that John junior was dead before this.
