About Josef Ha-Levi Felix

From the book “Třebíč. Příběhy židovských familiantů”, by Rudolf Fišer, Třebíč, 2012. ISBN 80-85571-21-8 p. 162.

FELIX, Joseph 19 (1796-1832) The circumstances under which he became a familiant, are not clear. Already in 1786 his father Salomon gave him half of the house (probably No. 11 - L. Pokorný 1) with a spa room and a privilege to perform the trade of a barber. He was to give his father half of all income from the business and to deposit 100 gulden. In 1794 he bought from Sarah, the widow of Jacob Kobler, for 750 gold pieces a house in building No. 13 (L. Pokorný 6 - now demolished). He acted as a surgeon (healer) and he was not doing badly. In 1799 he bought an empty lot near house no. 36 and in 1803 there was already a building of house no. 37 (Subakova 16). Since 1801 he was the owner of the house in No. 53 (L. Pokorný 25) at a price of 375 gulden with a small shop or store. In turn, he sold it for 431 gulden to Jonas Schmelkem. In 1821 he owned the upper part of the house No. 11 (L. Pokorný 1). Since 1827 he was in charge of the care of poor co-residents. In 1815 he was investigated by the authorities because the Christian girl Marie Vaňková from Jihlava served with him. Just before his death, he wrote to the High Authority that he had held ancestral position of familiant No. 19 for 46 years [t. since 1786), has a 26-year-old son Leopold and asks for him the family position No. 55. He died on 25 November 1832.
