About Littleberry Adkins, Sr.
"Bear" was probably NOT Mr. Adkins' given name at birth
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/47463602/littleberry_%22berry%2...
Liittleberry <> "Bear" may have been buried in Goochland but he lived over in what is now Cabell County WV and had slaves. (1840 census)
It is interesting that there was a later mullato family with a member named Littleberry Adkins of Goochland who died in 1949. ~• I add the reference here as a source (MMvB 2024)
! also: Pace of death... Was it in Goochland Couny or a similarly named palce in what is now West Virgina? After all: L.Bear (sic) Adkins appears in census date for (future WV) in 1840 and 1850 (!!)

~• a place name: "Adkins Branch" on the Tug River: 37.471300, -81.860457 at Krolitz, WV
~• a cemetery: Adkins Cemetery
Also known as Jones Adkins Cemetery
- Salt Rock, Cabell County, West Virginia
- https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2228649/adkins-cemetery
- note in particular: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/190900477/randolph-robert-adkins (1750-1819) for its early dates
- but Salt Rock is a long way from Adkins Branch

- note in particular: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/190900477/randolph-robert-adkins (1750-1819) for its early dates
- It should be observed in the above that a Bailey cemetery lies just little ways downstream from the Adkins cemetery, below Panther at Zach's Branch = 22 Zacks Branch Rd, Mohawk, WV 24862
- this is pertinent in that Bear Adkin's wife Sarah is associated with the Bailey name through her adoption history.
- there is yet another Bailey cemetery nearby at: Bee Branch Road
- the Panther Bailey cemetery is https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/77627/bailey-cemetery
- the Mohawk Bailey cemery is https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2572479/bailey-cemetery
- this is pertinent in that Bear Adkin's wife Sarah is associated with the Bailey name through her adoption history.
Note: There were a series of Adkins men known a Littleberry Adkins. Perhaps the nickname Bear grew ourt of Little-berry? (See: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/47463602/littleberry_%22berry%2... )
I wonder if they lived in what was then known as Montgomery County VA?
"Montgomery County was established on December 31, 1776, made from parts of Fincastle County, which was disbanded at this time and split into Montgomery, Washington, and Kentucky counties. Later, Montgomery lost land to form counties which now border it, including some counties which later formed West Virginia."

"The Portsmouth Star 14 Jun 1949, Tue ·Page 16 has his death announcement, said to have lived in Goochland url: https://www.newspapers.com/image/907267569/?terms=%22Littleberry%20...
I am fascinated by the name as it appears earlier in Adkins genealogies. Such as https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/182532095/person/1... "
