John Dennis Lewis was a son, born to Pvt. Thomas Lewis and his 3rd wife, Sarah Ann Hart on February 18, 1841 at Onancock, Accomack County, VA. [Note: He was Sarah Ann Hart's 1st husband, married 2/9/1837.]
John was named in his father's will on April 30, 1842, He was named in the will of Thomas Lewis. [Note: this will is lengthy & can me viewed at the URL posted below.]
The 1850 Census listed John with his parents at St. George Parish, Accomack County, VA. He was shown as John Lewis, age 8 in HH #222 headed by Thomas Lewis, a 91 year old farmer with real estate valued at $20,000.
John Lewis was a Civil War Veteran. He served in the Confederate Army from Virginia during the war.
Lt. John Dennis Lewis married Henrietta Susan Nicholson, a daughter of John W. Nicholson and Elizabeth Bayly 'Betsy' Stewart in February, 1865 at Accomack County, VA. John was 24 and Henrietta was 22. [The exact date of the license was not recorded. It was between February 23 & March 22, 1865.]
