About Lucy Callcott
Lucy Midson was born in 1875 and married Alfred Freeman Callcott in 1894. Lucy was a good student at school and passed her grades to become a teacher but did not proceed with this vocation. She was a talented artist and very interested in music. In later years she was the organist at the Thirroul Anglican Church. Alfred was a railwayman who commenced duty as a telegrapher probationer at the wage of 2/6(25c) per week. Later he was Telegraph Operator and then Night Officer at Hornsby, Officer in Charge at Hermidale and Station Master at Lyndhurst, Lochinvar and Forbes where he retired on a pension of $156 per annum. After Alf Calcott's retirement the family moved to Thirroul where they built a large home in Harbord Street which was run as a guest house to supplement the small railway pension. Lucy and Alf were also estate and insurance agents at Thirroul.
