Lucy Hill

Possibly the same as Lucy Hill and mother of Thomas Hills, of Upminster But evidence needed.

The book, "Reliques of the Rives (Ryves)" (Lynchburg, VA: J. P. Bell Co., 1929), pp. 1-5, by J. Rives Childs states that Robert Ryves of Blandford, Dorset was born about 1490 and died 11 Feb 1551; purchased Randleston/Ranston in 1545 and Damory Court at Blandford in 1548; married Joan who died 12 Dec 1560. Their children were:

1 John Ryves (b. 1514; d. 1549) married Amye Harvey of Tarent Launceston 2 Agnes Ryves married John Swayne 3 a daughter married William Hunton

Children of John Ryves and Amye Harvey:

1 John Ryves (b. 24 Jun 1536; d. 1587) married Elizabeth Mervyn 2 Mary Ryves (b. c1538) married William Aden alias Barbett 3 Margaret Ryves (b. c1540) married Richard Lawrence 4 Jane Ryves (b. c1542) married Thomas Sydenham 5 Robert Ryves (b. c1544; d. 1576) 6 Richard Ryves (b. c1547) 7 Thomas Ryves (b. c1549; d. after 1596)

In the eleven children of John Ryves and Elizabeth Mervyn, their third child was Lucy Ryves but she was born about 1561 and married Thomas Bellot.

xiii. THOMAS, b. about 1568; lived in Chard, where he d. in 1629 probably unmarried. His will, dated Nov. 20, 1628, gives to cousins (i. e. nephews) John Hill and Jonathan Hill, yeomen of Chaffcombe, sons of brother John, 10L each, and 5L more to each on marriage; cousin (i. e. niece) Anne Hill, dau. of brother Benjamin, 5L; to the poor of Pitminster 10s.; residue to friend Thomas Legg of Chard who was executor. [Wells Reg.] [This Thomas Legg of Chard was also intimate with John and Walter Deane of Chard who came to New England, being a witness and overseer of the will of their father William Deane in 1634.]
xiv. John, youngest child, but of age in 1592; b. probably about 1570.
