About Maj Robert Wayne Johnson

Robert Wayne Johnson was born June 22, 1923, in Pontiac, Illinois, the third son of Harry M. Johnson and Elva Luella (Mott)Johnson. He attended Pontiac schools and graduated from Pontiac Township High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He retired as a Major. He married A. Elizabeth Overby on July 19, 1945.

Following his military service, Robert became an electrician and member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 995. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed chiding his northern family about having the first tomatoes while they were still scooping snow.

He died Friday, June 6, 1997, at his residence in Baton Rouge. He was 73. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, and one brother. He was survived by his wife, a son, Daniel Johnson, two brothers Richard Johnson and Harry Johnson, Jr. both of Illinois.

Mr. Johnson was cremated and later interred at the Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana. Inscription: Major US Air Force World War II Korea
