About Marian Dunlop Anderson
Marian Dunlop ANDERSON, known to the family as 'Aunt', remained a spinster throughout her life. It was said that she never married becaused she was heartbroken following the death in 1917 of her pilot sweetheart, Capt Robin (Robert) Newton THOMAS. She kept till her death the letters and mementoes he sent to her. Many of the letters were sent to her home address, 18 Ingestre Road, Oxton, Birkenhead, where she was born, but one or two were sent to her boarding school, Howell's, in Denbigh, North Wales.
She served in the Red Cross in WW2.
In her later life she resided many years in Beckley, Oxfordshire, first at Squirrel Cottage and later at Hewel Barn. Her home at the time of her death was 3 Chaucers Lane, Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
Her funeral took place on 29 December 1981 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woodstock. She was buried in Grave No. 39B in the Cemetery, down by the withy beds below Union Street.
