About Mary Ellen Harter

Mary Ellen, second childof William and Eliza Harter, was born in Copley Township, Summit County, Ohio. She was married to Judd Dwight Kellogg, born October 6, 1866, and the couple went at once to live in Belvidere, Illinois, where Judd was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company. He served fora time as an engineer and in 1906 was transferred to Boone, Iowa, and made Road Foreman of Engines on the Western Iowa Division of the C&NW. He also served as examiner when firemen sought promotion to the rank of engineers. Judd became an extensive land owner in the vicinity of Boone where the couple lived the rest of their lives. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Mary Ellen was active in the Eastern Star and White Shrine. She was also an active volunteer hospital worker up to within a few days of her death and had accumulated thousands of jours of service as a volunteer. Judd died April 16, 1949. Both are buried in the Boone, Iowa Cemetery.
