Biography

Mehitable Johnson, daughter of Humphrey Johnson and Eleanor Cheney, was born in September 1644 at Roxbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony, and died August 4, 1689 at Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Mehitable Johnson married:

1. on October 31, 1661 to Samuel Hinsdale (son of Dea. Robert Hinsdale and Ann Woodward. He was born on March 5, 1642.) Samuel, his father and two brothers were killed by Indians while they were working in their cornfields on September 19, 1675 (the same day as the Battle at Bloody Brook). 6 children.
2. John Root who was also killed by the Indians on September 19, 1677. One child.
3. Dea. John Colman. Mehitable and Samuel Hinsdale had five children and she and John Coleman had two children.

Note: Mehitable came from Roxbury to Deerfield, MA.

She married Samuel Hinsdale 31 October 1660. He was killed by Indians 18 September 1675 in the massacre at Bloody Brook (near Deerfield). She was left a widow with five children.

Mehitable married second, abt 1676, to John Root, who was killed by Indians 19 September 1677 at Deerfield, while he was preparing their lot for building their house.[5]

Mehitable Johnson married first 31 October 1660 at Medfield, MA to Samuel Hinsdale (born 1637 England) and they lived at Medfield and Hadley and Deerfield in MA and had 7 children together. Samuel Hinsdale died in the "Bloody Brook" Indian massacre at Deerfield, MA on 18 Sep 1675.

Widow Mehitable Johnson Hinsdale Roote married third 11 Mar 1679 at Hatfield to widower John Coleman (his wife Hannah Porter Coleman died in the Hatfield, MA Indian massacre too; 6 children) and they lived at Hatfield, MA and Wethersfield, CT and had 2 children together.
