About Moishe Morris Aharon Safern
Born in Poland on 25.11.1909, died New York, May 1992. We who knew Moshe (Morris) knew how devoted he was to his family and to his Jewishness. Born in Poland, he grew up in Berlin, he helped to support the family when there was a need – both in Berlin and in New York. The high point of his life, however, was his participation in the War against Germany. He knew what he was fighting against, he knew we had to win the war and he willingly did his part. He went in as a radio technician, but was assigned to the infantry instead, and he was very proud that he could keep up with men 10-15 years younger than him in the Battle of the Bulge. When the war was over, he knew he had a real part in the victory. Afterwards, in Germany, Morris met some of the Jewish survivors and did what he could for them in a small way. He was devoted to the end to his family, and all Jews were his family. He enjoyed collecting antiques; he purchased many decorative items and religious articles in Europe after the war and shared many of them with his family.
