About Nathaniel Carle

See "Maine Families in 1790, Volume 4" [Anderson], pp. 47-49.

In 1734, Nathaniel Carle went to Falmouth, Maine where he framed and constructed a saw and grist mill for Thomas Westbrook and Brigadier Waldo. He appears on the 1748 tax rate of Falmouth First Parish, and he and his nephew Jonathan Carle are both listed on the 1766 tax list of Falmouth. In 1771, 1776, and 1789, he participated in land grants (along with his surviving brothers) of property formerly owned by his father.

Nathaniel Carle listed himself as a resident of Falmouth when he deeded to his grandson, Nathaniel Kilpatrick, in 1798 [Cumberland County deeds 38:278]. He was still alive and residing in Falmouth on 26 March 1801, age 87. Nathaniel died in Falmouth in Nov 1802 in his 90th year of age [death notice in Columbian Centinel, 4 Dec 1802].

Deposition of Nathaniel Carle, 26 March 1801:

"I came to live in Falmouth in the year 1734 and after in 1735, Mr. Thomas Westbrook and Brigadier Waldo built a saw mill with 3 saws and a grist mill on the lower falls of Presumpscot, and I helped to frame said mills, the same being built on the south west side of the River..."
