About Samuel Carle, II
Samuel Carle Jr. was still alive in 1776 when he joined his brothers Nathaniel, Robert, and Benjamin in deeding land formerly owned by their father in Scarborough. He was deceased, however, by 1789 when Nathaniel, Robert, and Benjamin Carle, as the "surviving sons" of Samuel Carle Sr., deeded more Carle land. His absence from that transaction confirms that he was the Samuel Carle "Jr." who died in Scarborough on 11 May 1785.
Scarborough Vital Records (housed at The Maine Historical Society):
"Samuel Carle Jr. buried May the 13th, 1785"
PLEASE NOTE: Samuel Jr. and Esther (Burbank) Carle did NOT have an eldest son named Thomas. The "Thomas Carle" who filed intentions in Scarborough, 18 November 1755, to marry Judah Bryant, appears to have actually been "Thomas EARLE".
The children of Samuel Jr. and Esther (Burbank) Carle were: Jonathan (c1738-1811), Benjamin (c1740-1753), Anna (b. 1742), Nathaniel (1747-1828), Samuel (1749-1833), and Ebenezer (b. c1755).
