About Samuel Carle, I
Samuel Carle was born in Dover, NH circa 1685, the son of Timothy Carle and his unknown wife. [*Please note: A birthdate of 5 Oct 1682 is unsubstantiated and is not believed to be accurate.] Samuel was a carpenter by occupation and he was in court in Dover in 1707 on the charge of "fencing in the commons". He was married in Dover, 7 Dec 1708, to Patience Evans, b. Dover, 5 Sept 1693, dau of Robert and Ann (Thompson) Evans.
Samuel Carle lived in Dover until about 1726 when he bought land in Scarborough, Maine from Samuel Beard. The family soon moved there. Samuel, his wife Patience, and several of their children were baptized there in 1742. More of his children were baptized in 1744. According to deeds drawn up after his death, Samuel Carle owned considerable land in both Scarborough and in Pepperellborough (now Saco). He died in Scarborough on 9 Dec 1762, age about 77, and was buried there on 11 Dec 1762. On 17 Feb 1776, his surviving sons Samuel Jr., Nathaniel, Robert, and Benjamin sold 27 acres of their father's original land in Scarborough. In 1771, the same four sons had also sold "land of their father" in Pepperellborough.
