About Peggy Ann Lawson

Peggy Ann Lawson is the 10th of 15 children born to Thomas Lawson and Nancy Jeffers. She was born in New River, Campbell County, (now Scott county) Tennessee soon after the 1840 Census was taken. She died before February of 1842 in New River, Campbell County, Tennessee and was most likely buried in the New River Cemetery since that was part of the land that her father donated to the New River Baptist Church for a cemetery.

The following is from the original deed: (Book F Page 638) State of Tennessee Campbell county this indenture made and into between Thomas Lawson of the one part and the New River Baptist Church of the other part Both of the county and state aforesaid witness that for the love and affection that I have for the Named Church I do Transfer and Bequeath to the said church one acre of land lying and being where there said meeting house now stands and beginning as follows Beginning on a pruspuil and Birch then south to a sowerwood thence west to a Birch thence north to the creek thence up said creek to the Beginning to have and to hold the said tract of land so long as that continues to be a church and in consequences of there not remaining a church said land to fall back to said Lawson and other wise I the said Lawson will for ever warrant and defend the Title of the said land against the claims of any and all persons in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th February 1842.
