... [Mohammad Vali was one of five sons born to Fath ‘Ali Shah in 1789 in thelocality of Nava in the Caspian foothills.(, “Fath ‘Ali Shah,” 150. Each of the five sons was born to a different mother. Moham-mad Vali Mirza is variously mentioned as the third or fourth son. His mother, Bibi Kuchak Khanum, was a Bakhtiari, the sister of Sadeq Khan Borujerdi and Ali Khan Chahar Lang.)
His first step on the stage of history occurred in boyhood when his eldest brother, Mohammad ‘Ali Mirza (Dowlat-shah), after having made an impertinent reply to Agha Mohammad Khan, had to be whisked away to safety, escorted by Mohammad Vali Mirza.
