About Rev. Albert Lacombe
Albert Lacombe (1827-1916) was a French-Canadian Catholic missionary who lived with and evangelized the Cree and Blackfoot First Nations of Northwestern Canada. He brokered a peace between the Cree and Blackfoot and negotiated construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway through Blackfoot territory.
- He was born in Saint-Sulpice, Québec to Albert Lacombe and Agathe Duhamel. He was ordained on 13 June 1849.
- He was sent to Pembina, Minnesota where he worked with Father Belcourt from 1949-51.
- He was missionary in northwestern Canada for most of the rest of his life.
- He translated the bible into Cree along with Constantine Scollen in 1870. He also wrote a grammar and dictionary in Cree.
- He traveled to Europe and visited the Vatican and Pope Leo XIII and the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph in 1900.
- In 1904-05 he traveled again to Europe and visited Pope Pius X

- Auteur d'un dictionnaire et d'une grammaire en lange cree (1873)
