Other sources have believed that John Potter actually married Sarah Kimball, daughter of John Kimball and Mary Bradstreet. Thomas Waters, in his Candlewood, An Ancient Neighborhood in Ipswich, claims that Sarah Fellows, daughter of Williams Fellows and Mary Ayres, married a John Rust and was a widow by 1722.

Sarah born in Jul 26, 1657, the youngest daughter of William and the only one of his children whose birth has been found in town records. She was a legatee in 1676. She married John Potter in 1677 and was still living in Ipswich in 1723. She had many descendants.
John Potter subscribed six shillings towards the bigger bell in 1700. His mother, Elizabeth subscribed 3 shillings.
