Ackley World Journal, page 5, May 1 1941, Ackley Iowa - Thomas Fahey death:
Death Messenger Calls Thos. Fahey
BORN IN 1857-LIVED IN SOUTH FRANKLIN CO. AND ACKLEY
Died at Family Home in Ackley, Early Wednesday.
Funeral Services to Be Held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Friday Morning.
Thomas Fahey, past 84 years of age, resident of Ackley since 1911, when he and Mrs. Fahey left their farm home in Osceola township, Franklin county, died at the family home in this city Wednesday. He had been in ill health, having sustained a stroke of paralysis several years ago. Through all, however, he maintained his natural cheerful disposition, and held the affections of all who knew him. He was born at Marion, Ohio, March 17, 1857, and came to Iowa with his parents, at the age of 4 years. He grew to manhood in south Franklin county; through all the years of his life there, he was one of the representative men of the community.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Halloran, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Halloran, who too were among the early residents of Osceola township. Mr. and Mrs. Fahey left the old home farm in 1911, and came to Ackley. Mrs. Fahey died in 1926. Their union was blessed with nine children, two of them died in infancy. Surviving are these:
Mrs. Sam A. Martin, resident of George, Iowa; Mrs. E. Nangle of Mason City; Mrs. Frank Keninger, west of Ackley; Mrs. Jas. A. Parden at Iowa City; John, Robert and Floyd in Ackley. A brother, John, well remembered by older residents here, died a number of years ago.
Funeral services are to be held at St. Mary's Catholic church, Friday morning, May 2, the Rev. J.J. Murtagh to officiate.

Ackley World Journal, p 1, Ackley Iowa, Thursday April 15 1937 - Thos Fahey 80:
THOS.FAHEY PASSED
HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY
Members of His Family Were Gathered
at His Home; Long
Resident Here.
Thomas Fahey, resident of Ackley for many years, prior to which he lived, with his wife and family, some six miles northwest of Ackley, in Osceola township, was pleasantly surprised at his home on the evening of the day that indicated his birthday anniversary—the eightieth. As a matter of fact Mr. Fahey was born on Saint Patrick's day, a day such as almost any descendant of Irish parents might select—if given opportunity— to "come to earth."
Mr. Fahey was in his customary good frame of mind, when the thirty or more relatives, the immediate members of his family and a few close friends entered his home on a birthday surprise visit, and offered best wishes for the "new year" and many more of them. Mr. Fahey, a few years back, suffered a stroke of paralysis, which deprived him of his natural activity, but he is conveniently situated; gets about his home easily by reason of some of the conveniences that have been arranged for him—in and out of an invalid's chair; in and out of his bed, without any particular assistance. He is the same genial "Tom" that the friends of old have known him to be through many years—but he is not able to get away from his home. All the more reason for surprise when the host of relatives and friends entered and sang Happy Birthday to You!"
Among relatives present were these: Mrs. Sam A. Martin (Mr. Fahey's daughter) of George, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Martin, Mrs. R.A. Veenker and sons, Martin and Ralph, also of George, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Nangle (his daughter) and son, Thomas, of Mason City, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. John M. Fahey, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Keninger and family, Robert and Floyd Fahey, Mrs. Lena Thompson. Miss Anna Harken—all ot Ackley. The family circle was complete except for the inability of his daughter (Mrs. Parden, and son, residents of Iowa City, la.) to be present. The family was represented by four generations: Mr. Fahey, Mrs. S.A. Martin, Mrs. Veenker and son, Mr. Fahey's wife (born Halloran) died a number of years ago, and two sons, Ed and Tom, are also dead.

1897 Ackley World, Page5, 1897-10-22 - death of Viola Fahey:
A six months old child of Mr and Mrs. Thomas Fahey died of whooping cough and lung trouble Friday last and was buried from St. Joseph's church, Sunday afternoon. The little one had been the source of happiness in the home; mirthful to the time of its ill-fated illness. The parents feel the sting of death keenly; the place made vacant in the home is one couched in tenderest remembrance.

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. Thomas Fahey Barn Sunday Night - Stock Unharmed.
Lightning struck the large barn on the Thomas Fahey farm in Osceola township, Sunday night - and while some damage resulted, it may be termed "a lucky strike" because of the slight damage done. Splinters and pieces of board were (?) forty feet and more; six head of horses standing in the part of the barn that was struck, escaped without a scratch although struck by splinters. Other stock was near by. The loss can be repaired with 100 feet of lumber.

Residence: 1930, George, Lyon, IA.
Tom and son, Robert, were counted in the Census as being in George at the home of Tom's daughter, Ligouri. They were probably in George for a visit, although it is possible that they were living in George for a period of time.

Had a Family Reunion.
The home of Thomas Fahey was the scene of a happy family reunion on Sunday, a week ago - and Grandfather as well as great-Grandfather Fahey was made to realize and appreciate the fact that his is considerable of a family. The Martins of George, Iowa, Pardens of Iowa City, Nangles of Mason City, Fahey and Keningers of this city were gathered about the family "board" and hearthstone. Forty or more in all and among the number eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. And Father Fahey beholding the circle of youth, was ready to believe and appreciate the fact that time passes rather hurriedly - and that he is "some daddy." The gathering was a very enjoyable one for all.
