Vernon M. Emery, 75, passed away at Hendricks Regional Healthcare in Danville.
Born Oct. 25, 1929, in Bloomfield, he was the son of Emil Emery Sr. and Vina Emery (Dove).- - He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served from 1947 to 1950 at Camp Le Jeune, N.C. attaining the rank of PFC and membership in the Military Police before being honorably discharged.
On Sept. 2, 1949 he married Lois Elaine Keller whom he spent the next 56 years with.
He was employed, after leaving the service, as a filling station and truck stop manager working for both Enco Oil and Hoosier Pete at various locations becoming a route salesman for Farber Distributing Co. from 1963 to 1983, then for B-F Beverage Co., Inc. as salesman from 1986 until his retirement in 1993
He was a member of the American Legion post in Cloverdale and the Masonic Lodge also of Cloverdale
He is survived by: his wife Lois Elaine Emery (Keller); brother Emil Emery, Jr.; sister Irene Corbell (Emery); daughter Cynthia LaVerne Blankenship (Emery); son-in-law Dennis E. Blankenship; son Jerry Lee Emery; daughter-in-law Vera H. Emery; grandchildren Dennis Brett Blankenship, Samantha Marie Lewis (Blankenship), Jovanny Martin Emery, Francesca Elaine Emery; and many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his father Emil Emery, Sr., his mother Vina Emery (Dove), his brother Robert Lee Emery and his twin sister Peggy Neil Emery.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Decatur, 5463 Kentucky Ave., Indianapolis, with burial following at the West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
