About William Davey
William Davey born 1854 born in Islington Married Eliza Smith in 1874 in Islington. The family lived for some years in Templeton rd Islington ,off seven sisters rd Middlesex .' This particular William Davey was a' public house manager for some years at one of his fathers pubs also in Islington . likely to have been the Globe Tavern .On death of his father (1885) also called William Davey he received a substantial annuity in the family properties with life interest which was also paid to each of his children for lifetime & to their children (his grandchildren.) His parents & his sisters are buried in the Davey family mausoleum in St Pancras cemetery, said to be in lead coffins with glass lids.William Davey senior death in 1885.Obviously an elaborate affair in those days as the funeral was said to be "a coach & six" meaning horses or perhaps pall bearers?( according to compilers grandmother.)
Shortly after 1890/92 they moved home & while their children were growing up the family moved several times. Ilford St Albans road then to Walthamstow to Melford road about 1899. Finally settling in Prittlewell near Southend on sea around 1907/09 It was known that William wished to be buried in the above Mausoleum, however as nobody came forward to provide the mislaid key at the time (1929) he is buried in a newly ordered plot bought by the Simpson family. They later added Eliza, his wife & Anie Mays husband to this grave located in Sutton rd Southend on sea. Joseph his son is buried two graves along , in the same row, he died during the second world war. Williams interest in his last years had been to locate the remaining descendants. Particularly his sisters children , those born of Sarah Jane Smith.'
This task was entrusted to Beatrice Simpson his youngest daughter to undertake which was during 1927-29 William was best described as a dapper dresser known for his waistcoats & fashionable signet rings completed often by his father's silver topped walking stick.
