About William Benedict Martin
William Benedict Martin, born in Cooper County, Mo. July 15, 1863, was the fifth son and ninth child of John Martin and Elizabeth Bildheimer Martin. He died in Sedalia, Mo. Sept. 1931, where the greater part of his adult life was spent. According to his son, William R. Martin of Joplin, Mo., he was "six feet tall, had dark hair, green hazel eyes-was tall, strong, and handsome." Early in his career, he was a co-owner of Martin and Coleman Blacksmith Shop and was considered one of the most skilled mechanics in Sedalia. When automobiles appeared on the horizon, he sold his interest there and engaged in the artesian well drilling business. For the last thirty years of his life, he was stationary engineer with the Sedalia Water Works Company.
He married 1st: Rose Isabel McGaw of Pilot Grove, Mo. and had two children; 2nd: Elizabeth Armbuster and had one child; 3rd Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald with no issue
