William MOBBS was born c1764
William married Ann GROVER c1790 in England and they had the following children

William was convicted of stealing (with brother-in-law William BATEMAN) and sentenced to 7 years transportation. He arrived in Sydney Cove on 18 May 1797 on "Barwell". His wife and children followed him, arriving in 1801 on "Earl Cornwallis"
After arriving in Australia, William and Ann had the following children

William died 25/9/1839 at Pennant Hills and was buried at St John's Parramatta

William Mobbs transported for 7 years for stealing 600lbs of saltpetre from the King, Left Portsmouth on board "Barwell", arrived Port Sydney 18th May 1798.
His brother-in-law William Batman (History changed his name to Bateman but he NEVER used this name) was also convicted and sentenced to 14 years for the same crime - (William Bateman is reported to be the father of John and Henry Batman of Melbourne).
William's wife Ann arrived Port Sydney on 12 June 1801 with four of their children aboard "Earl of Cornwallis".
William and Ann's children were:
- William married Maria Grono (daughter of Captain John Grono and Elizabeth Bristow),
- Ann married Nicholas Lacey, John Cox and John Dengate,
- Isaac married Ann Tomlinson,
- (George) John (born 1802 Parramatta) married Phoebe Tomlinson, Phoebe (born 1808).
Occupation: Orchadist.
The children of William and Ann Mobbs, flourished and were successful in rural pursuits, already by 1819 Mobbs and his four sons had occupied or received promises of 780 acres (312 hectares), with purchase of John Macarthur's Pennant Hills lands. John Dunmore Lang visited Mobbs in 1830 and noted the very extensive orchards: It is believed that William Mobbs and his son were making over $2000 a year in 1833. .
William Jnr. their eldest son, is listed in the 1828 Census as a farmer with 300 acres. He died on 14/07/1851, aged 60 years, and is buried in St. Paul's Cemetery, Carlingford.
Isaac, the second son, is listed in the same census as a landowner with 200 acres. He died on 13/08/1877, aged 82 years and is buried in St. John's Cemetery, Parramatta.
George, the third son, died unmarried on 7/07/1821 aged 25 years and is buried in St, John's Cemetery, Parramatta.
John, the youngest child, is also buried in St. John's Cemetery, Parramatta.
Ann, their only daughter, married three times and died childless on 21/08/1867 aged 74 years.
Established his own orchard in Castle Hill using a cutting from the first orange tree brought from Rio. The dynasty commenced by William Mobbs and Ann (nee Grover) continues to this day and has produced many prominent citizens
WILLIAM MOBBS and WILLIAM BATEMAN (brother in law) were indicted, the first for feloniously stealing, on the 20th of December, six hundred pounds weight of saltpetre, value £481. the property of our Sovereign Lord the King. Second Count. Laying them to be the property of Edmund Hill, Esq.
Mobbs was transported for 7 years Bateman was transported for 14 years
Mobbs was transported to Sydney on the Barwell arriving on the 18/5/1797
