About William Nathaniel Scales
He moved to Mississippi around 1840. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted as a captain in Co D, George's Regiment, 5th MS Cavalry, 10 Sepember 1863 in McNutt, MS. He was taken prisoner 3 November of that year in Collierville, TN. He was sent to Johnson's Island, Lake Erie, Ohio 3 March 1864. He died in the Camp Chase hospital. Johnson's Island was a prison camp for Rebel officers.
