Springsure is a small town in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland, 66 km south of Emerald, 765 KM northwest of Brisbane. (GPS 24°07′S 148°05′E)

Population in 2006 - 829

Springsure was explored by Ludwig Leichardt c 1844.

In 1861, Horatio Wills and a party of Victorian settlers. Two weeks later 19 men, women and children were killed by Aborigines in the Cullin-La-Ringo massacre (the largest massacred of European settlers by Aborigines in Australia History.

In 1862 Old Rainworth Fort was built to defend against future raids.

On 16/11/1943 a Douglas C-47A skytrain (aeroplane) broke up in mid-air just south of Springsure, killing all 19 people on board.
