Adam Laidlaw, son of Wiliam and Mary, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1840. He ran a lumber yard on Lake Micmac in Dartmouth, and also ran a stage coach operation between Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia. (Perhaps the first version of Laidlaw Transport.)
