Dr John Shanly was a famous Dr in Dublin where he worked for many years in Temple Street Hospital with my Granaunt Margaret Mary O'Flynn who was Matron. His father was born on the family farm near Elphin County Roscommon and moved to Dublin where he had a business, John was born in Dublin in 1896. My sister Pauline O'Flynn trained as a nurse in Temple Street in the 1960s and remembers Dr Shanly who still practiced there seeking her out because of her Granaunt Dr Shanly lived to be 100 and died in 1996. Most of his life was devoted to the health of his fellow man.
