About Daniel Wienholt
Daniel's date and place of birth, Bayonne, found in a pocket book (presumably kept by his mother) in which are recorded the birth dates and places of all 10 siblings. This record also states that he was vaccinated and that he was baptised (no date given) in Laugharne.
The 1861 census has a full household for Daniel and his family at 30 Westbourne Park Terrace, Paddington, London (which became Porchester houses in 1912). His birthplace is confirmed as France, and his occupation is East Indian Merchant. Living with him and his wife Helena are all four children, his sister Emma Bowen (described as a governess), another governess called Agnes Caroline Bowen, and three servants named Mary Anne Deakins, Matilda Milford and Eliza Frederica Schomberg.
So it was after this that he joined his brothers in Australia, only to be beset by financial misfortune. The stress caused him to become unwell and he died aged only 42 of what sounds like an obstruction of the digestive system. Letters written a few days later by his brothers John and Arnold (see sources) to his wife Helene (who was residing in Hamburg with her parents) recount the circumstances of his death and his subsequent burial in Brisbane.
