Both were doctors, George Alcock settling in Roxbury and Richard became the first medical man established in Charlestown. He was a member of the Boston church with his wife, pew Nos. 105 and 106; They did not transfer their church memberships to Charlestown. He requested admission as a freeman October 19th 1630, and took the oath 18th May 1631. Died: Charlestown, Mass., 1656.

Children

This list is taken from Moriarty and Anderson's Great Migration and updated with information from 2012 published by Anderson in the Winthrop Fleet.

Two of the daughters who were married by the time of their father's death had remained in England-- one in Deptford, the other in nearby Stepney, where their widowed mother likely returned by 1655. (The widow ultimately returned to New England, settling in Roxbury, MA, where she died between March and May 1669). The widow's will identifies "a late son Alcock" (suggesting that one of her daughters married an Alcock), eldest daughter Mary, wife of Roger Wellington, [granddaughter] Mary [Wellington], wife of John Maddox; granddaughter Anna Alcock, eldest daughter of "my late son and daghter Alcock"; to John Heylett, eldest son of her daughter Lydia, who received her husband's medical equipment and books.(Moriarty, p 208) This results in the following:

  • Please note that Ann Palgrave of Salem and Beverley who married Nicholas Woodbury was not a daughter of this family. She was the only daughter of the other Richard Palgrave.

Became Freeman in 1631. Where it says "Freeman" instead of birthdate, it means he went before the General Court and made an affidavit that he was over 21 years old, a member of the church, and owned property. Then he was given the right to vote on all questions.
