In Search of Barnabas Horton by Jacqueline Dinan and published in 2015 states that Hannah Horton was the daughter of Barnabas Horton and Anne Smith. She married three times to men of Southampton, New York. The Dinan book shows no marriage to a man named William Mapes, as has been found in some historical stories, which include a later Hannah Horton, daughter of Caleb, to a Mapes.

She was named as eldest daughter Hannah Trevalle in her father's 1680 will.[1]

Hannah Horton was born in the early 1630's[2]in England, most likely in Leicestershire or Warwickshire.[2]and died after 1700.[2] She was the daughter of Barnabas Horton[2]and his first wife Anne Smith.[2]. [SIC]

Hannah married first Thomas Hildreth[2]of Southampton,[2]who died in 1657.[2]

Children of Hannah Horton and Thomas Hildreth:

  1. James Hildreth born about 1649.[2]He was rated at 30 pounds in 1683, 48 pounds in 1696, and 46 pounds in 1700.[2]
  2. Joseph Hildreth born about 1651.[2]He married Hannah Jessup[2]on September 11, 1678.[2] He was chosen to serve as constable for Southampton in 1687[2]and a town trustee in 1694,[2]but refused the office of collector in 1697, choosing to pay the 40 shilling fine penalty instead.[2]
  3. Jonathan Hildreth. He was rated at 30 pounds in 1683 in one of the few public records, which confirms his existence.[2]
  4. Hannah Hildreth was born about 1654.[2]

Hannah married second Jonas (Jonah) Bower[2] who was a weaver of Southampton[2]who died in 1671.[2]

Children of Hannah Horton and Jonas (Jonah) Bower:

  1. Jonah Bower born about 1660[2]and died by April 7, 1712;[2]He married Ruth Howell[2] on April 12, 1686.[2]
  2. Isaac Bower born in 1668[2]and died January 20, 1746.[2]His will was proved on February 10, 1745.[2]
  3. Mary Bower married William Terbell/Tarbill.[2]
  4. [daughter] Bower[2]

Hannah married third Thomas Trevally.[2]Thomas was a cooper of Southampton and died in January 1687/8. There are no known children of this marriage.[2]

Notes

Note that The Horton Genealogy shows that she married Barnabas Terrill about 1670, but that could not be the same person who married the other 3 men as follows.

"In Search of Barnabas Horton" by Dinan, 2015. The author writes that Hannah Horton, the daughter of Barnabas Horton and Anne Smith, marriage (1st) to Thomas Hildreth of Southampton, who died in 1657. Marriage (2nd) to Jonas/Jonah Bower, a weaver, also of Southampton, who died in 1671. Marriage to (3rd) Thomas Trevally sometime before 1680. Trevally, a cooper, was also of Southampton and died in January 1687/8.

ALSO, Dinan shows NO marriage to a man named William Mapes.
