About Harry William Ferguson
(Source: roy@jackson.co.za)
Harry Ferguson ran away from home and joined the army during the First World War and then signed up again after the outbreak of hostilities in 1939. I(Roy) knew and visited with him often as a teenager.
During the period between the two world wars, he worked as a skipman on the gold mines.
The family tell the story about him always being ‘ill’ on every Monday morning. When any of his family phoned in to tell the Mine Captain that he would not be in at work for that day, he would say “ Tell Ferguson we know he has pleurisy again, to take two asprin and we will see him in the morning.’
Information from Ray Jackson's MyHeritage profile:
Served in the Army in the first world war and again in the secondworld war.Worked on the Gold mines as an onsetter. Was known wherever he worked as a person who suffered from plurisy, usually on a monday morning. He was a great drinking partner of his brother Alex.
