Maria met and married Peter Putman while still in Germany, sometime in the late 1700's, where they were both born. They were more than likely French Huegenots exiled to Germany , their names having gone From French to a Germanic translation to as Anglican translation when they came to the states.

Peter Putman served in the Revolution in the Third Battalion of the Cumberland Militia. After he died, his estate was settled by his widow, Mary, and Adam Snyder. Mary left her will in 1814. Their farm was on the road between Somerset and New Centerville.
