Augusta Co. VA landowner, Elder of the Old Stone Church at Ft. Defiance, near Verona and Staunton. Likely buried there, but no marker exists. I looked.

Scots Presbyterian. Moved to VA from Pennsylvania with wife Jane, daughters Ester, Mary, and Margaret. Other children:

John b. 1740 m. Ann Erwin not mentioned in father's will. Robert Anderson- b. 11/15/1741 General in American Revolution and Anderson Co SC named for him. Jane/Jean married Hugh Allen then William Craig James b. 3/16/1745- Captain Rev. War m. Agnes Craig Andrew- b. 1749 Col Rev. War m. Margaret Crawford William- b. July 1750 Captain Revolutionary War moved to Jessamine Co., KY.

Land patents for John Anderson begin 1740 in Orange County(later Augusta County)- 400 acres on the branch of the north river of Shanando called Anderson Branch. Patents 19/360. Last land Patents 39/228 Feb 16, 1771, 167 acres on the east side of Smith Creek. Will: dated March 4, 1779. Probated February 20, 1787 Staunton, VA. Will book 6 p. 550.
