Objective

The objective of this project is to serve as a repository for all Americans whose genealogical traces end in New Amsterdam and the Dutch province of New Netherland in the 17th century.

Please add all your New Amsterdam profiles for which you don't find any antecedents

This project is promoted through the Portaal voor Nederlandstaligen project, which acts as a portal for Dutch speakers who are mostly residing in The Netherlands and Flanders. There, Dutch and Flemish Geni-users may help you find the 'missing link'. Please remember that quite a few early settlers actually had a Walloon background - which explains the appearance of 'French-looking names' in New Amsterdam; however, many of these Walloon ancestors may have fled to the North of reasons of religious persecution - hence, the Dutch sources can offer many clues.
