“The parents of this man are unknown, despite years of research. They are clearly NOT Nathan Merrill (1704) and Damaris Lancaster. His father may be named Thomas Merrill, but research is inconclusive.”

I tried to see if there’s a “Merrill Family Project” and no luck. Also a hint in the Wikitree profile that he was “an Englishman.”
I’ll start a discussion from profile so descendants are less shocked at the disconnect.
Hi everyone.
I have a person, born Elizabeth Griffin who could really bebnefit from curatorial intervention/review.
She appears multiple times in geni, but the issue isn't just merger of duplicates, but decisions regarding parentage and correct spouses. We are likely dealing with two separate persons married to different men, but it would be great if curators could examine the profiles and weigh in.
Essentially, ancestry.com searches strongly point to her parentage being:
Richard Griffin (1734–1805) and Nancy Ann Clark (or Clarke) (1740–1792)
Located here:
https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000034056781936
[NOTE: Just yesterday, as luck would have it, there was a GEDCOM download for this couple and their tree, which naturally complicates matters, but I ignore this in the current discussion.]
Here are the variables that are problematic:
Ancestry.com (and various geni profiles!) shows Elizabeth marrying Andrew Pickens (a significant historical figure from South Carolina revolutionary era history). However, it also shows her married to Jarrett Wright, and Ambrose Christopher, I.
Because children's birth years clearly overlap, we cannot be talking about chronologically sequential marriages by different men to the same wife. And yet, ancestry.com (and geni) imply all these women are the same Elizabeth, because DOB's or DOD's are the same, or parents are the same. In one profile in geni, parents are different (Ralph Griffin and Susannah Buckner), but she is married to both Wright AND Christopher (deste children's birth years overlapping from both marriages).
Teasing out which Elizabeth is the daughter of WHICH set of parents, and married to WHICH correct spouse . . . we need to get another pair of eyes on this, because I am a bit uncertain how to correct all this, and don't feel I am authorized to make such a repair.
Here are all the profiles for Elizabeth which I believe are affected by this issue:
Elizabeth Wright
Elizabeth Pickens
Sarah Elizabeth Wright
Elizabeth Wright
From purely a common sense standpoint --- nothing else --- it would stand to reason that if Elizabeth is in fact two different persons, the birthdates cannot all be identical (as they currently seem to be set to the year 1759). Since in some trees she is married to Andrew Pickens, who is VERY much older than she is, the Elizabeth Griffin who married Andrew Pickens was possibly born well before 1759, and in turn, was likely born to parents who, also were earlier-born.
Accordingly, my theory is this: Ralph Griffin and Susannah Buckner were born a decade or so before the other proposed parents of Elizabeth (Richard Griffin and Ann Clark). Might it be possible that Ralph and Susannah, being older, are the parents of the Elizabeth who married Andrew Pickens (who might herself, perhaps mave been born a decade earlier, too, thus making the age difference between herself and her husband, Andrew, less pronounced). While Richard and Ann are the parents of the theoretically-latter-born Elizabeth, who married Ambrose and/or Jarrett?
This would help separate Elizabeth with Andrew Pickens from Elizabeth and the other two spouses, and help theorize as to parentage.
However, this still leaves the issue that Ambrose and/or Jarrett cannot have been simultaneously married to Elizabeth, because despite the fact their ages are compatible with Elizabeth, the children she with each of them have overlapping birth years.
This leads to the possibility of a THIRD Elizabeth Griffin.
Thanks!

Private User & anyone else interested. I’ve spun off the Elizabeth Griffin problem to it’s own discussion:

The place to start is biographies in the “about”s.
Private User - Henry Sewall, of Warwick & St. Mary's is sorted.
Billie June Keaffaber - Sarah Chapman (Clay) - update appreciated.
Erica,
Since I using some stuff from ancestry and The my heritage which suggest the Clay as maiden name as given does note or my Heritage link to confirm information need to be added so further research can be done. No hints showed up on her to confirm match I had to go into research feature of geni to get it. But both Ancestry and my heritage has same information. I going to try to find more reliable information later I just add as finding.

I am in a bad mess with Allston Strickland I made a merge and I honestly think it needed to be done as was the same person but wrong parents. I keep getting tree matches and I am not sure the wives are right.
Mehitable Averill does not belong as a wife of Sgt. Ebenezer Averill
She is not listed in Andover VR. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Russ-8 does not have her as a child of Andrew Foster and Mary Russ. (The profiles on WikiTree for Andrew and Mary are well-sourced.)
Mehitable Foster does exist just not as a daughter of Andrew and Mary (Russ) Foster. She is Mehitable Averill I have found her Ipswich (birth) and Topsfield (marriage & death) VR.
Erica Howton, I think that looks a lot better and I am going to see if I can find sources. It is the line of a cousin's and does intersect some of mine. I will see what all I can find to add to the profiles. Thanks so much.
John Harmon has some issues.
His bio, which looks well put together, has some conflicts with the information I'm finding in this book of Harmon Genealogy. He also seems to have a bunch of issues going on with this siblings, based on the CC issues.
Bio says he married Abigail TIbbetts, but the book says he was married to Abigail Foss. I think that can be explained because she might have been a widow of a Foss. However, the book says their children were William and Josiah, bio says their child was Joseph.
Abigail Harmon has two husbands named Joseph Foss, but one has dates that aren't compatible.
Joseph Foss would have been born 14 years after her and he has a CC issue for his mother being too old for his birth, so his birth date it probably in error. Also, his death date is in 1773, which means she couldn't have been married to John Harmon in 1754. But, here is a merge compare for another Joseph Foss with the same 1735 birth year. https://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000037604362550?return=match...
https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Harmon_Genealogy_Comprisin... page 13 is where John and Abigail are listed. Page 11 is for father Samuel and mother Mercy. Page 12 mentions an Abigail (born Harmon) who married a William Foss in 1765 - not sure if that factors into the confusion, such as a possible merge between two different Abigail Foss/Harmon profiles.
Private User - there were 2 different Joseph Fosses & that’s the genealogical confusion, I almost merged them too. Plus there was a Gedcom upload with multiple John Harmons with the correct parents of Samuel & Mercy but crazy dates. I merged them and resolved conflicts.
This is a better source for the Harmon Family if you find contradictions with the older Harmon genealogy:
https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/48193/images/MAMEF...
I should also say that when there are discrepancies between Davis & HARMON, A. C. (1920). The Harmon genealogy, comprising all branches in New England. Washington, D.C., Printed by Gibson Bros., Inc. https://archive.org/details/harmongenealogyc00harm they should be noted in profiles, such as William’s mother, and Elizabeth vs Abigail Hoyt, 3rd wife. But resolve to Davis.
Jemima Perkins is the daughter of Mehitable Averill and Ebenezer. I did not want to add her to Ebenezer until Mehitable was fixed.
Someone- didn't read the note on the Profile and merged
Please unmerge Thank you
