Anna Wassamokwe Pawis

Mrs. Anna Pawis ( born c1867) is listed as # 1629 on the 1907 Wooster Roll where she is identified as the sister of Jonas King # 1617, born c1839 i.e. 29 years older. Her traditional name is reported as "Wassamokwe" (mistranscribed on 2014 Wychoff transcript) meaning "Lightning" but that translation requires scrutiny and comment by those with expertise in nuances of the Anishinaabemowin language and Potawatomi culture.

In 1907 when Mrs. Anna Pawis was age 40 she was a resident of Shawanaga Indian Reservation which is in the District of Parry Sound, Ontario north of the Town of Parry Sound.
