MADISON - Betty E. Schmidt (Nee Lageson) of Madison, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the age of 87. She was a world traveler, dancing queen, Christmas celebrator extraodinaire, and the dear wife of the late Edward William.
She will be missed by her daughters, Elizabeth (Todd) Tiefenthaler, Sally (Robert Kovich) Schmidt, Nancy (John) Dickens, and Heidi (Jeffrey) Meyer. She was the beloved grandmother of Ryan, Ross (Sydney Oland), Heidi, Victoria, Hans (fiancée Amy), Jack (Laura), Anna, Tom, and Sarah.
Betty was born on Sept. 18, 1927, the 12th child and second youngest of Edward and Helga (nee Kristoffersen/Berg) in Blanchardville. She was proud, and rightly so, of her Norwegian roots.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Eunice, Doyle, Glen, James, Erling, Robert, George, William, Donald, and Jean. She was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Frederick Ingvald Schmidt.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Jane and Ruth. A special thank you to nieces, Jana and Cathy, and friends Ruth, Isy, and Emily. The family extends their gratitude for the loving support from her caregivers at Agrace HospiceCare. Betty kept her sharp mind and her requirement to have her hair done and lipstick on until the end.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 4, 2015, at 9 a.m. at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty's name are appreciated. Memorials can be directed to Agrace HospiceCare (5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg 53711) or the UW Foundation Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (www.adrc.wisc.edu).
Ryan Funeral Home assisted the family.
