Obituary: Teutopolis Press April 3, 1924
Catherine Esker Dead
Mrs Catherine Esker died peacefully and well prepared at the home of her son, Frank Esker, of Franklin, three miles southwest of Bishop Catholic Church, Sunday forenoon at 11:30 o'clock, March 30, 1924, after being bedfast for over two years on account of old age.
Funeral services were held at St Aloys Church, Bishop, Tuesday forenoon at 9:30 o'clock followed by internment in the nearby parish Cemetery. The children and a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and the Married Ladies Sodality of which the deceased was a member, attended the obsequies. Rev Wolfgang Kraus OFM, pastor of St Aloys Church officiated. Deceased was also a member of the Third Order of St Francis.
Miss Catherine Pille was born at Alfhausen, Osnabrück, Oldenburg Sept 11, 1845 and came with her parents to this country who settled on a farm south of Teutopolis when the deceased was a year old.
Grown up to womanhood she was married to Henry Esker, 1866, who preceded her to the great beyond Feb 17,1886. This union was blessed with eight children, of which one son, John, died at Teutopolis, Aug 20, 1917. The living are: Tony of Teutopolis, (Mary) Mrs Henry Beckman of Bishop, Frank of Franklin (Theresa), Mrs John Doedtmann of south of Montrose, Herman of Island Grove, Ben and Jos of Teutopolis, two step-children Mrs Jos Mette Sr of Bishop and Henr Esker of Muenster, Texas, Besides these, Grandma Esker is survived by fifty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and one brother, Henry Pille of Franklin.
