About Anton Esker

Obituary: Teutopolis Press - October 2, 1947

Anton Esker of Teutopolis, died suddenly Monday morning, Sept, 28, 1947 while doing some carpentry work on top of one of the grain elevators at the J. M. Schultz Seed Co. at Dieterich. Death occurred at 10:30 o'clock as the result of a heart attack, the man breathing his last soon after the arrival of a doctor. His son George Esker and Robert Kemme were with Mr. Esker at the time he suddenly collapsed at his work, complaining that he felt ill.

Anton was born October 4, 1868 al Bishop Creek, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Esker, nee Catherine Pille and his age at the time of his death was 78 years, 11 months and days. He was united in marriage Philomena Westendorf in the year 1896 and since then he had resided continually in Teutopolis where he had been making his home with his son George and wife since their marriage. Mrs. Esker passed away Nov. 26, 1932. Mr. Esker was a carpenter by trade and followed this profession during his residence in this village.

The deceased is survived by his son George of Teutopolis and one daughter: Mrs. Clarence (Mary) |Stumborg of Effingham; two brothers: Ben and Joseph Esker of Teutopolis; two sisters: Mrs. John Doedtman of Teutopolis and Mrs. Henry Beckman of Bishop Creek; 13 grandchildren; besides a host of other relatives and friends. Two sons also preceded him in death: Aloysius dying in infancy and Lawrence who died at the age of 38 years on Nov. 16, 1940.

The remains lay in state at the Habing Funeral Home in Teutopolis until time for the funeral services which are being held at St. Francis Church in, Teutopolis at 9 o'clock this Thursday morning. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery here.
