Henry Esker

Heinrich Esker Family

Heinrich Esker was a son of Ludwig and Maria Catherine Popping Esker . He married Mary Catherine Buenker on August 6, 1861, and bought a farm near the town of Franklin. This farm was south of the intersection of the Elliottstown road and what was later called the Police Station Road. The land was advertised in the Teutopolis area by a group of men who operated a store on the wharf in St Louis. The land had been used as collateral for a purchase which was never paid off.

Heinrich and Mary Catherine had two children:

Henry (Tinner) Esker, born in 1863, married Elizabeth Overbeck and they lived in Muenster, Texas;

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Esker, was born in 1865 and married Joseph Mette Sr. of Bishop Creek. Mary Catherine died January 15, 1867.

On August 13, 1867,Heinrich married Katherine Mary Pille, who was born September 11, 1845, in Alfhausen, Osnabrück, Oldenburg. They had eight children.

Anton Esker (born 1868) married Philomina Westendorf (born 1870),

Mary (born 1870), married Henry Beckman, Frank (born 1872) married Mary A. Beckman (born 1878).

Theresa (born 1874) married John Doedtman.

Herman (born 1877) married Elizabeth Schabbing (born 1880),

Bernard (born 1880) married Anna Nuxoll (born 1884),

Joseph A. (born 1883) married Catherine Niendick (born 1892), and

John H. (born 1886) married Philomina Kitten (born 1883).

Heinrich Esker died Feb. 17, 1886, and Katherine Mary died March 30, 1924. They are both buried in the Bishop Cemetery.
