Death Of John Esker
It has pleased divine providence to take from our midst our beloved fellow citizen John Esker, of Teutopolis, Deceased was born August 311886, in Franklin, and died in St Anthony Hospital, at Effingham, August 20th, 1917, of typhoid fever, having the grace to receive the last Sacraments of the Catholic Church several times with great devotion and humble resignation to the will of God before his death, He was the youngest child of the late Henry Esker and wife, born Kate Piile, In the last week of April 1911, deceased was joined in holy wedlock to Miss Philomena Kitten of St Francis township. This union was blessed with three children: Ethel five years, Johnny three years and little Clara eleven months old. An aged mother a sorrow stricken widow, three children, five brothers, Henry of Muenster I Texas, Frank on the old home-stead, Tony, Ben and Joe of Teutopolis, Herman of Island Grove, and three sisters, widow Mrs. Joseph Mette Sr. Mrs. Henry Beckmann both of Bishop and Mrs. Therese Doedtmann of Island Grove mourn his too early demise.
The remains of the deceased were tenderly laid to rest in the local Cemetery Wednesday, August 22nd, after the last ceremonies of the Church had been held for the dead by the local pastor Father Theodosius O. F. M. at nine o'clock, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends of the deceased. St Peter's Men Sodality of which deceased had been a member attended the funeral in a body. May he rest in peace. Mr. Esker was a zealous tiller of mother-earth, residing at the time of his death on the Herman Hatke farm north of town. This paper extends its heartiest condolence to the family and near relatives in their sad bereavement.
The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: John Eckjan, Joseph Huber, Dick Pundsack, Henry Riemann, Henry Schmidt and John Schniederjan.
