Mrs Mary Beckman Dies at Age of 82 .
Mary Beckman, 82, a life long- resident of the Bishop community died at 8:45 p. m. Monday at the home of her daughter, Mr and Mrs Lawrence Goeckner with whom she had been residing. She had been in for about the past ten days. She enjoyed fairly good health until July of 1952 when she was taken to St. Mary's hospital in Decatur for care and treatment. Recovering nicely, she returned to her home on August 21st and had been feeling quite well since that time.
Mrs. Beckman was the daughter of the late Henry Esker and Catherine Pille. Her husband, Henry, preceded her in death on October 22, 1945, seven years ago.
She is survived by nine children: four daughters, Mrs. J. H. (Tillie) Worman, Mrs. George (Rose) Goeckner, and Mrs. Lawrence (Clara) Goeckner all of (Bishop, and Sr. M. Cosma, a member of the Precious Blood Order who is now at St. Theresa's Academy in East St. Louis, and five sons, Ben of Wheeler, Joe of Teutopolis, Leo of Effingham, and Alf and Sylvester of Bishop, also surviving are forty-one grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ben and Joe Esker of Teutopolis, and a sister, Mrs. John Doedtman of Teutopolis.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry and four brothers, Tony, Frank, Herman and John Esker, also Henry Esker, a half brother, and Mrs. Joe Mette Sr. a half sister.
The body is at Habing's funeral home where it will remain until time for services. The rosary was recited on Tuesday evening, and will be recited again tonight at 7:50 p, m.
The requiem mass will be offered at 9:00 o'clock on Thursday at St. Aloysius Church, Bishop with burial in the parish cemetery. Rev. Anthony Wagner OFM, pastor will officiate at the requiem mass.
Her daughter, Sr. M. Cosma and granddaughter, Sr. M. Wilma, both members of the Precious Blood Order arrived Tuesday and will remain here until after the funeral services. Sr. M. Wilma is the former Alvina Goeckner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, George Goeckner. She is at the Catholic Children's Home in Alton.
