About Elizabeth Downes
- Elizabeth Becher was the eldest daughter of Colonel Thomas Becher and his wife Elizabeth Turner. She was born on the 17th February 1670.
- She married in 1697 to Captain Horatio Townsend who sadly died the following year onboard his war sloop "Lynn", leaving Elizabeth a widow with a baby daughter, Penelope.
- She married again, to Bishop Dive Downes in 1601. 1701 Sherkin 30 July 1701 From Colonel Thomas Becher to Sir E. Southwell "I have married my daughter Townsend to the Bishop of Cork, who joins me in acknowledgement of many favours extended to her."
- Elizabeth had one daughter, Elizabeth born prior to 1705 when her will was written. Elizabeth's will was proved in 1707.
