Lionel Becher

Lionel Becher was born 9th March 1686, the youngest son of Thomas Becher of Sherkin Island.

Lionel married Catherine Dunscombe in 1712 in Co Cork, Ireland.

Lionel Becher became a Freeman of Clonakilty on the 24th August 1716

His death was reported in the "Gentleman & London Magazine " Deaths 10 Feb 1770 Lionel Becher of Cork died". His death notice in Freeman's Journal added that he was aged 84.

Only an abstract of Lionel Becher's will survives, written by Betham who did see the original will. It implies that Lionel Becher had an elder son who was not named in his will. "Per will of Lionel Becher of Sherkin. Signed 4 Jan 1767, proved 16 Feb 1772. Wife Catherine Dunscombe, son Edward, Father-in-law William Dunscombe , said Catherine having died several years earler, leaving three daughters Catherine, Peniel married to Randall Westropp Esq Harriet Sympson, widow and younger son Edward. Grandsons Edward and Michael, sons of son Edward, Grandsons Lionel and Michael Westropp & John Sympson. Dau Susannah Becher deceased. Son-in-law Randall Westropp and Robert Travers of Cork & testator in partnership of a pilchard fishery. Bro Michael deceased. Executor son Edward Becher. witness James Freke, George Bushe, Edward Moriarty."

An indentured Deed 383 533 254795 reveals the name of this eldest son to be Thomas Becher who died without leaving male issue.
